Montegrosso d’Asti is set in a vast hilly territory, originally of the Tertiary era, formed a million years ago by sedimentation of an ancient sea. Being Free of rock formations, limestone-clay soil in prevalence, with sandy attendance, accompanied by a cool temperate climate, is  definitely the ideal environment for the vine. According to big names of the wine scene, the future of great Barbera is ASTI and his terroir where the production of Barolo and Barbaresco is not allowed and the most important variety is Barbera, planted yers ago on the very best hillsides. Moreover Barbera planted in the Alba area is usually found in locations where the conditions are not good  enought for Barbaresco or Barolo. Our 6ha vineyards are in the hillside at 244 t sml in soils calcareous, rich in clay, limestone, sand and microelements. Exposure is southeast, and the age of the vines is 10-80 years. The training system is Guyot and there are 5,000 plants per hectare. We are in the most beautiful and interesting areas of Monferrato characterized in living memory a secular vocation: viticulture. In fact the grapes and the wines of these hills were famous since ancient times. They were praised by Roman writers and medieval princes and kings,  scientists and gourmet. Over the centuries written or famous quotes on many occasions celebrated wines  of “monferratensis” hills for them excellent quality. The conditions for the cultivation of the vine are excellent: a temperate climate, with cool nights in late October, it integrates a special terrain, rich in clay, limestone, sand and microelements. A set of essential factors for the top quality viticulture: a unique terroir, unique, inimitable: the Monferrato.
